History

The Katie At The Bat Team was founded in 2006 by lifelong athlete Lisa S. Hoffstein to provide enriching athletic opportunities to girls in under-served communities of Philadelphia. Sports programs were accompanied by a multi-faceted curriculum designed to have a lasting positive impact on the life trajectory of participants.

Since the first 6-week basketball program we piloted at a gym in West Philadelphia, we have grown to include tutoring, basketball, tennis, swimming, healthy cooking classes, leadership programs, a program for young juvenile offenders and summer camps.

In spring 2015, the Board of Directors announced that the organization’s name was changing to Team Up Philly, to better reflect what we do and to enhance community awareness. The new tagline adds an important element: Empowering Girls to Win in Life. As Team Up Philly, we continue to provide positive youth development programs to girls in challenged areas of our city.
